The Austin Chalk Drilling Activity Heads East

Five new wells targeting the Austin Chalk have been permitted in the past few weeks.  The focus area appears to be near the intersection of Avoyelles, St. Landry, and Pointe Coupee Parishes.

  1. Interesting. I guess these wells are attempts to recover additional AC or find missed areas? New methods? It seems like in '96-'98 time frame there was a lot of AC drilling in these same areas. I know there was even one drilling in Livingston Parish near Livingstion.

  2. Kevin, yes, it appears that Anadarko has figured out the "drill and complete" formula for the Austin Chalk. We'll see if others can replicate. The Austin Chalk in Louisiana has never really had sustained success. We'll see if it happens this time.
