Marathon Makes It Official

Marathon Oil announced today that they have secured a large position in the Louisiana Austin Chalk Play. Leases recorded in the courthouse indicate that they've accumulated approximately 180,000 acres in southeastern Rapides, northern Evangeline, and southwestern Avoyelles Parish. Their block exists both north and south of the Fredericksburg Shelf Edge.

It will be interesting to compare the different rock types and subsequent results from the LA-West and LA-East.
Congratulations to Marathon and welcome to the play.

  1. My family and I have mineral rights in Livingston Parish on 76 acres. It is just 2 miles from a dome of oil. We have leased it before in th he 70's and 80's. We are very interested in leasing it now. It is in the middle of the Tuscaloosa Trend. What do I need to do to get it leased again. Thankyou
